Students choose from a variety of Reindeer leathers for their bracelet.

The workshop held on Saturday, April 3rd will be an Intermediate Sami Bracelet workshop. Kurbits style painting workshop with Pieper Fleck Bloomquist

Picture
Dates: May 11 – May 13, 2021
Time of Class: 10 am - 3:30 pm

Workshop held at the Community Room at the Public Library in Bagley
Instructor: Pieper Fleck Bloomquist
Cost: $75. All Materials are included at no additional cost.
Limit: 12 Students
Pieper teaches Swedish folk art - Dalmålning (also known as Kurbits) and Bonadsmålning (which is darker, no kurbits). The kurbits could be strictly floral, or a combo story/floral. Bonader are mainly story (which means figures etc.). Pieper has studied the Swedish painting styles of Dalmålning and Bonadsmålning extensively. Keeping the history and tradition of these art forms is her passion. Kurbits painting is a decorative style of painting that was very popular in Sweden between 1780 and 1870, particularly in Dalarna and southern Norrland. Today it is still used and a popular style that honors our Swedish, farmer herritage. These figurative paintings were made in Dalarna in Sweden and they had their flourishing period in the years 1790-1850.

Kurbits painting is the Swedish equivalent of Norwegian Rosemaling and is from the beginning, the name of a big plant, with gourds, leaves and flowers. This plant has become the main symbol for a painting from Dalarna.

Bringing a Scene to Life - Plein Air Painting

Picture
Dates: June 23 - 25, 2021
Instructor: Joshua Cunningham
Time: 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM
with an hour break for lunch
Cost: $75

Meet at Bagley Elementary School Community Education Room (Door #11)
Materials List will be provided by April 15, 2021
Plein air painting is about leaving the four walls of your studio behind and experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape. The practices goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. These paintings capture the light and its changing qualities. This type of art allows the artist the freedom to paint in the "open air" and for some it is out of their comfort zone. When one paints from observation, whether on-site or indoors, you encounter several different light sources, including direct sunlight, overcast sky, and evening light. These types of light all have distinctive qualities that you have to understand in order to paint them convincingly. Painting outside is challenging due to constantly changing atmospheric conditions. Although plein air paintings are prized for their spontaneity and freshness, participants will learn to be organized and deliberate in their painting. Joshua shares his knowledge and experience with students and helps them develop a foundation in the fundamentals of painting outdoors.

Joshua will continually outline his processes and demonstrate his techniques throughout the workshop by showing each new task and style he wants the artists to paint. Participants will have time to work on each new task and style. The students will be able to finish one or more pieces.
